Over the years, Canyon Lake city has had as many monikers as there are things to do on its picturesque shores. Early settlers established a cattle ranch near the city’s canyon and called it Jacinto Canyon. The area would also get the name Cottonwood Canyon owing to the many cottonwood trees on the banks of the river.

The California Southern Railway would also influence the naming of Canyon Lake. Before the rail line was abandoned after a flood, the name Railroad Canyon had stuck. Whichever name the Canyon Lake community took, what remained consistent was the constant development of the city.

After it’s incorporation as a city in 1990, Canyon Lake began its transformation into a little paradise thanks to the many developments happening around its namesake lake.

The population soared to 11,000 residents and today. Most of them spend time boating, swimming, skiing, or fishing on the 380-acre lake. Canyon Lake fills up to capacity after every storm when the water quality gets to its peak quality. Tons of nutrients wash into the lake drawing hundreds of fish to spots all around the reservoir. There are lots to do apart from spending time at the lake though. There’s a soaring economy that makes the area ideal for stores, amusement parks, and all sorts of fun attractions. The cost of living is equal to the average recorded in California and houses are pretty much affordable.
